The March 10th SAT approaches / McElroy\'s New Tutoring Center

Posted 2007-02-27

So we're less than two weeks away from the March 10th SAT. My tutoring schedule is becoming more and more packed by the minute, so the postings are probably going to slow down for a while. Plus we just leased a new tutoring center, so I have to work on moving us in! I am very excited about the tutoring center--we have a reception/waiting area, as well as a private tutoring room and a small classroom (8 student maximum). This will provide a perfect central location for our tutors to meet with stu... Keep Reading

Work for Us! - Apply to work with the McElroy Tutoring Team this summer

Posted 2007-06-30

Hello everyone: This is the new McElroy Tutoring job ad for Providence-area tutors. I originally had this posted on Providence Craigslist, but a handful of Craiglist users flagged it down and now Craigslist's automated system won't accept a re-post. What really bugs me though, is that I can't even figure out why this job posting deserved flagging in the first place. I would love to hear from anyone who might know the reason, so I can avoid it in any of my newer postings. I believe in flagging ha... Keep Reading

Work for Us - MT San Diego Now Hiring Tutors in all subjects

*Now Hiring Ambitious, Talented, and Creative Private Tutors* by Brian McElroy, CEO/Director, McElroy Tutoring "(about Brian) : http://www.mcelroytutoring.com/aboutbrian.html If tutoring has taught me one thing, it is that some students require long explanations, but that others just prefer the raw, condensted stats. This is especially true when it comes to a job posting (I know these things are usually not exciting to read). So I figure I should provide a little bit of both. Here is the brief v... Keep Reading

Notes from the October 2007 PSAT

Posted 2008-02-14

So local high school guidance counselors are finally starting to hand back PSAT booklets! Although counselors usually receive the test results in December, many schools wait until January to distribute the results to students. Some of these schools also refuse to hand out the booklets themselves until finals are over. I can only guess that the reason for this delay is that counselors would prefer that their students focus on their classes until final exams are over. It's a good idea in principle... Keep Reading

Customized SAT and ACT progress reports now available for all McElroy Tutoring students

Posted 2021-07-11

McElroy Tutoring has been growing very quickly over the past few months, so suddenly I'm spending the majority of my weekday mornings and afternoons managing company policy, consulting with local parents, and directing our team of tutors. Then, of course, when the late afternoon/evening rolls around, it's time for private tutoring with my SAT, ACT, and college consulting students (I usually tutor from about 2:30 - 9:00 PM on weeknights, 11AM - 5PM on weekends). Finally, at night, I try to add to... Keep Reading

Scores on Princeton Review SATs at Francis Parker 100-200 points lower than real PSAT scores.

Posted 2021-07-11

In the fall of 2007, Francis Parker High School in San Diego administered a practice SAT exam for their juniors. This test was created by the Princeton Review, a large and well-known test prep company.
Around the same time, Parker juniors took the official PSAT, which was administered by the College Board, the company that makes the SAT. Recently, the Parker counselors handed back the results from both tests. The results were laughable: many students' scores on the Princeton Review SAT w... Keep Reading
