Although life (and commerce) as we know it has certainly been transformed by this virus, it's still business as usual at McElroy Tutoring: I continue to stay busy, remotely coaching private students worldwide via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, phone, etc. in SAT, ACT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE and ISEE prep, as well as essay editing and college admissions consulting. Switching from my Pacific Beach office, where I worked for 13 years (2007-2019), to an online / remote learning business model has proven to be a fortuitous decision.
The main adjustment has been that I am now 100% online, instead of just 80% online: I no longer offer in-person lessons.
With regard to the changes going on in the larger test-prep world, and their effects on student schedules and plans, several exams have been cancelled, including (in part) the March SAT and LSAT, the April ACT and LSAT, the May SAT, and the June SAT, along with nearly all in-person administrations of the GRE and GMAT (traditionally computer exams taken in specialized testing centers), which are now moving to online, at-home versions of the exams. Eventually, the SAT, ACT and LSAT will most likely also transition to at-home testing, as the College Board has already done with the AP exams. (The College Board--also the maker of the SAT--has suggested that it will reschedule some or all of the cancelled SAT test dates, while ACT, Inc. has made no such indication.)
College and universities are responding to the ongoing public-health emergency as well, with more forgiving (if temporary) admission and grading policies--the University of California system, for example, which oversees 10 public universities and nearly 300,000 students, has recently announced that it will no longer require SAT scores, ACT scores, or spring 2020 letter grades from its class of 2021 applicants, though it will still consider SAT and ACT scores that are sent.
