So local high school guidance counselors are finally starting to hand back PSAT booklets! Although counselors usually receive the test results in December, many schools wait until January to distribute the results to students. Some of these schools also refuse to hand out the booklets themselves until finals are over. I can only guess that the reason for this delay is that counselors would prefer that their students focus on their classes until final exams are over. It's a good idea in principle, but it seems a little authoritarian to me. Students should already know that grades are just as important as SAT scores, so they shouldn't be forced to wait another month in order to see what they got wrong on the PSAT. Just my two cents.
Anyway, I finally got a look at a version of the October 2007 PSAT today. It had some tricky Critical Reading questions, and some fun vocab words. Those words included: extemporaneous ingenuous (not to be confused, as I did the first time I glanced at it, with *ingenious*) indubitable and others. You high school juniors better stay on top of your vocab, because the PSAT had high-level words, and that's probably a sign that this year's SAT will have even more difficult vocabulary than normal. I have also included some of my notes from the test. Enjoy...
