Why Choose McElroy Tutoring?

1) I'm an expert.  I have 25 years and over 25,000 hours of classroom teaching, private tutoring, and essay editing experience, going all the way back to my freshman year at Harvard, where I graduated with honors in May 2002.

In other words, I've been a professional tutor for longer than LeBron James has been an NBA basketball player.

Along the way, I've attained near-perfect (99th percentile) or perfect scores on every test that I teach (SAT, ACT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT), including perfect scores on the SAT, ACT, and GRE — and my students have earned admission to nearly all of America's top colleges and graduate schools.

I've also created and developed my own proprietary strategies, methods, and techniques: ones that no other educator can offer, because I invented them myself.  These methods have allowed my students to achieve some of the very largest score gains in the industry.

Finally, I offer my private students access to extensive digital libraries of high-quality prep materials.  These materials — the very best available in the business — serve as the source of most homework assignments and (official) practice tests.

2) I'm patient, perfectionistic, professional, positive, and personable.

Patient:  I am by nature a patient, friendly, and calm instructor.  I promise not to rush you or to make you feel stupid.  Learning is a humbling process, and everyone makes mistakes, including me.  We're only human, after all.

Perfectionistic:  I am never satisfied until you understand 100% of the material, and will put in extra time outside of our sessions to clarify my lessons or do further research on a question if necessary.

Professional:  I show up for lessons on time, fully engaged, enthusiastic, and prepared -- and always put in full effort to be the best tutor possible.  I seek to consistently provide my clients with the clearest, most detailed question explanations, techniques, and strategies.

Positive: I see the glass as half full, and believe that maintaining a comfortable, upbeat, and mutually respectful interaction between teacher and student is conducive to optimal learning.

Personable:  Yes, I have social skills!  I can hold a relaxed, normal conversation, I always try to make learning fun, and I pride myself on my ability to connect with English-speaking students of all backgrounds. Call me directly at 619-889-2935 to hear more.

3) I never stop improving as a tutor.  The person who thinks they have nothing left to learn is always wrong.  I seek to educate myself and improve my mastery of the teaching craft through a variety of means -- including reading every resource I can find, scouring the internet for good information and official practice tests, and making adjustments based on student and parent feedback.

Every student is unique in how they communicate and learn, and good tutors must thus stay adaptable and ready to make adjustments.  After a quarter century in this business, I'm happy to report that there is still so much left to learn.

4) I'm committed to your success.  I care about my students, and will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their goals.  I understand that my services are not cheap, so I aim to prove to you that they are worth every penny.
